Witch on a Broomstick Coloring Page

A young witch flying side-saddle on her broom, pointed hat tipped forward, dress and hair streaming behind her. This free witch coloring page is friendly rather than frightening — she is smiling, and there is nothing scary anywhere on the sheet.

Who this page is for

Ages 4–9. Four clear areas carry the whole page: hat, dress, hair and broom. That is enough structure for a younger child to feel successful and enough surface for an older one to add stripes or stars.

Things to talk about while you color

• The pointed hat only became standard in children’s pictures in the 1800s. Before that, witches in illustrations wore whatever everyone else wore.
• Brooms in old stories were not for flying anywhere in particular — they were household objects, which is exactly why they turned up in the tales.
• In a lot of modern children’s books the witch is the hero. Ask which kind yours is.

Make it an activity

Have your child invent one spell she is on her way to cast, then choose the colors to match it. A weather spell and a birthday spell produce very different pages.

How to print it so it looks great

Use Fit to page on A4 or US Letter. The dress and hat are large flat areas — if markers soak through, three quick fixes here.
