A small, friendly flat-top monster with two neck bolts, a row of stitches across his forehead and a wide happy smile. This free Frankenstein coloring page is drawn to be cheerful rather than frightening — useful if you have one child who loves Halloween and another who does not.
Who this page is for
Ages 3–8. Big simple blocks (head, shirt, trousers, shoes) with just a few details to pick out: the bolts, the stitches, the little tuft of hair.
Things to talk about while you color
- Frankenstein was the scientist, not the monster. The creature in the book has no name at all.
- The story was written by Mary Shelley when she was eighteen, after a rainy holiday where friends dared each other to write ghost stories.
- The flat head and neck bolts are not from the book — a film makeup artist invented them in 1931, and everyone has copied him since.
Make it an activity
Green is the obvious choice. Ask your child to pick any other color first, finish the page, and then decide which version they like better.
How to print it so it looks great
Use Fit to page on A4 or US Letter. Large flat areas like his shirt use a lot of marker ink — this paper comparison covers what holds up.
More Halloween pages to color
Meet the rest of the friendly monsters: the fluffy horned monster, the little vampire, the waving mummy and the dancing skeleton. All of them are on the Halloween coloring pages page.
