This free spiky dinosaur coloring page is a friendly sitting dinosaur with a tall crest of triangle spikes running from its head down to its tail, a round tummy and big bright eyes. The spikes are drawn as separate closed triangles, so each one can be its own color.

Who this page is for

Ages 3–7. Simple body, fun details. The row of spikes is ideal for practicing a color pattern, and the big belly gives younger kids an easy win.

Dinosaur facts to share while you color

  • Spikes, plates and horns are called “ornaments” by paleontologists, and many dinosaurs used them to recognize each other.
  • Some dinosaurs, like Kentrosaurus, had spikes that pointed straight out from their hips for protection.
  • Spiky armor probably grew more impressive as a dinosaur got older, just like antlers on a deer.

Make it an activity

Count the spikes, then color them in a pattern: two colors alternating for little ones, three or four for older kids. The pattern practice is real early-math work disguised as coloring.

How to print it so it looks great

Choose Fit to page and print on A4 or US Letter. Regular copy paper is fine for crayons; for markers, a slightly heavier sheet stops bleed-through — see which paper works best.
