Black Cat in a Witch Hat Coloring Page

A cat sitting up straight in an oversized witch hat, tail curled neatly around its paws. This free black cat coloring page is drawn in open outlines rather than filled in solid black — so there is actually something to color: the hat, the buckle, the eyes, the fur.

Who this page is for

Ages 3–8. The shapes are large and well separated (hat, head, body, tail), and the pointed hat gives an easy win for a child who wants one bold color to carry the page.

Things to talk about while you color

• Black cats are unlucky in some countries and lucky in others — in Japan and much of Britain, a black cat crossing your path is a good sign.
• Cats turn their ears independently, each one swivelling about 180 degrees to track a sound.
• A cat’s whiskers are roughly as wide as its body, which is how it judges whether a gap is worth squeezing through.

Make it an activity

Nobody says the cat has to be black. Ask your child to make it ginger, grey or bright purple, then ask why people always draw this cat in black — a small door into how traditions get started.

How to print it so it looks great

Use Fit to page on A4 or US Letter. If you plan to color the hat with markers, slightly heavier paper holds the ink better.
